Remember high school pep rallies? Well, the latest event that Greenlight lit was like that, but so, so much better. The United Center in Chicago was packed with over 5,000 high school aged kids, 2,000 of their chaperons, media, rapper Big Sean and of course NBA MVP Derrick Rose himself.
Once again we worked with our fantastic friends at Henry V to light “D Rose All In For Chicago,” the welcome back to the Chicago Bulls for Derrick Rose after an injury forced a long absence. In addition to the incredible enthusiasm surrounding Rose’s return, Adidas also announced the launch of the D Rose 4 basketball shoe…some pretty rad kicks available October 10th!
In just over 24 hours we produced this entire event from set to strike! Multiple moving lights and LED fixtures, a 100’ wide wall of 30’ tall banners, and a stage the size of an entire basketball court wowed the crowd, who were all dressed in bright red D Rose t-shirts. The audience, stage, and performers were aglow!
The night incorporated so many incredible elements that made for a spirited event! Complete with a shooting drill, epic slam dunk contest, fan participation games, giveaways, dancing and entertainment by the “Love-a-bulls” dance squad and “Benny the Bull” the Chicago Bulls mascot, there was never a dull moment. The big feature (well, other than Rose obviously) was a live performance by rap artist Big Sean who put on a great performance of four of his massive hits.
Like all popular (and especially youthful) events these days, social media was incorporated in a big way. Two MC’s from a local hip hop radio station were encouraging people to hashtag #drose4 and they definitely did…when you’re at an event with mostly under 20 something’s you’re bound to get some social media engagement! Check the hashtag on your Instagram and twitter for some of the real time updates!
